When you adopt a child, can the parent that gave up the child change their mind and get the child back?

If a woman puts a baby up for adoption, and they get adopted, can the parent change their mind and ask to get the kid back? Can you give me some websites that provide information about this? %26lt;- - - It's for a re-search project, its not like i wanna do that.

Thanks =]When you adopt a child, can the parent that gave up the child change their mind and get the child back?
There isn't a ';one size fits all'; answer to this question - I'll try to explain:

Once the baby (that will be adopted) is born, there is a period of time that must pass before the birth mother can sign legal documents that relinquish her rights to parent that child (technical name:Voluntary termination of parental rights). In some states this occurs immediately; most states will not allow relinquishment papers to be signed until 48 hours have passed since the time of delivery (or after discontinuing pain medication in the case of a C-section) - in some states the minimum amount of time that has to pass between birth and signing relenquishment papers 15 days.

In many states, the termination of rights is immediate and irrevocable (except in cases of fraud, threats, and or coercion). In some states, the birth mother/father has six months in which they can change their minds and reclaim the child.

Here is a link to a table of the various time periods.

In most states yes, In some states it's 6days and in some it's 15 months these periods of time are established to give the birth parents time to reclaim a child but this usually does not happen. It's called the grace period.

not if the rights have been transferred over. then the parent has no right to the child unless stated in some type of agreement with a lawyer and the state.

they give the birth parent(s) a certain amount of time to make their final decision after the child is born. (this is b/c parents will change their mind)

i was watching that show ';adoption stories'; and they said that the birth parents have 10 days after they give up their child to change their mind...the laws are probably different from state to state...and depending on the adoption agency...
