so technically he is not all black/african american.great for the break through on how it shows racism is at a point where it doesn't matter who you are and this is a historical moment taking place.im happy that he was elected.but why say he is 1st african president elect or our soon to be president when he really is not?Why are they calling OBAMA the first african american/black president when he has a white and black parent?
mainly, they call him black because of the color of his skin. having half african ancestry helps too. he is black, his dad was from kenya. yet he is also white, so he is not the first all-black president but he is the first not all-white presidentWhy are they calling OBAMA the first african american/black president when he has a white and black parent?
No other president had any ancestors that were black. He's the first one to have any african heritage. Obama had a full african father and a caucasian mother. that would make him an african-american. he identifies himself as african-american. He obviously couldn't say he's just a white person. He is biracial, but it's a bit of a hassle to say that you're half white and half black all the time or put in the headlines ';the first half white half black pres.'; the facts are that he is african american, but not a full-blown kenyan.
I suppose we should stop calling someone ';white'; who happened to have one black great-grandparent. [/sarcasm]
Perception is everything. Would anyone doubt the outcome of an attempt by Obama to eat at a ';WHITES ONLY'; lunch counter in the '60s?
He is called black because he looks black. His father is from Africa. His mother is from America. He is African-American in that sense of the term.
He's the first President who isn't entirely white. He's quite literally African American.... His father was African, his mother was American. African blood runs in his veins, therefore making him black.
He looks pretty Black to most Americans. That is good enough for us. We have never seen the half of him that is white. Maybe if he wore a swim suit?
How do you know he hasn't chosen to identify himself as an African American? I think it is pretty obvious that he has chosen to do so.
He has stated he identifies himself as an African American and he is more than most because his father was from Africa
It makes better press.
because he is mostly black
