Is a parent responsible for children who cause injuries?

my 4 year old bit a 10 year old because he was scared once he reached the top of the slide. The 10 year old laughed rather than moving for him. They took the 10 year old to the hospital. Under Pa law, am I responsible?Is a parent responsible for children who cause injuries?
Yes. Your child may hold equal responsibility under the law and may have a judgement against him when he turns 18. But usually not with a child this young. You would be solely responsible. Yes you are responsible for the conduct of your child in all circumstances that's the law and that is why people carry insurance to cover these problems.


A 4 year old should not be biting anyone and of course a 10 year old shouldn't be making the situation worse when they see that a younger child is scared, but biting should not be a option for any child I know my child bite me when he was 9 months old and I sternly told him NO that was the last time he ever bit me or anyone.


I do hope you can stop this behavior as soon as possible it is one thing that most people will not put up with from a child.

First off my child was CORRECTED for the situation. He was at the top of the slide. got scared and started to panic and kept screaming MOOOVE MOOOVE let me down!!! ... The other boy laughed and even tryed pushing him down the slide .. than sat down right at my sons feet. He PANICED .. he's not a horrible child and some of the remarks here were every unneccissary.


He didn't just bite to be mean .. he did it because he was scared!!! AND further more .. the 10 year old boys mom was accross the street inside her home and not with him!!





I personally think that I owe half the 500 hospital bill as she is also responsible. Her child is a bully and did not make good choices himself.


This happend back in September!! .. She has come over telling me she was going to beat the crap out of me .. and than kick the crap out of my husband .. she is nuts!!!





Also .. She claimed her littlest son and HER was covered under Pa access .. but that her oldest ( who has the same mother, father ) wasn't ) it would have been covered! ....


I was looking for some advice if anyone knows the pa law when it comes to minors .... I didnt expect so many crude remarks
Regardless of what state you're in, as a parent you are always responsible for your children.





I really do think it was a little outrageous to take a 10 yr old to the Hospital for a bite given by a 4 yr old. But that's just me!





Talk to your son about playing nice, and how his actions can inflict pain on others.
Well, your 4 year old must be an incredibly good biter or the mom of the 10 year old is a whoose, you will have to pay for the hospital expenses cause your 4 year old can't.
Well your son was never taught to not bite, under any circumstance. And although the 10 year old is no angel, it is your fault.
Yes. Who else would be responsible...the 4 year old? They are a minor and cannot be held financially responsible.
