Why would a parent smoke in front of a child?

Because they don't think it will harm them. My father and grandfather smoked for years and my sister now has severe asthma and pneumonia every 3 months. She is on consistant pennicilin without any relief from coughing. She is only 42 years old..imagine what her old age will bring.Why would a parent smoke in front of a child?
I'm really sorry to hear that. It's sad that smokers don't consider those they are hurting.

They are addicted, and it is discusting. I have to say that someday that child will get lung cancer without ever smoking (many children of smoking parents find it so discousting they don't smoke). I had a friend who found smoking really discousting because his mom did it. (How she talked and coughed is really discousting and I couldn't imagine that being me)
Sure, you would have to live under a rock to not know the dangers of smoking. But some parents simply don't care. My parents smoked right there in the house with me. I had childhood asthma and occasional attacks. They didn't stop though, they just looked the other day. It wasn't until we started attending church regularly, when I was 14, that they finally quit.





Yes, some parents are just selfish. But you know, it could be worse. They could be smoking in front of the kids, leaving them alone to find their own food, and prostituting their kids for drugs. I've seen these things, and worse. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff parents do to their kids. Smoking is just the tip of the iceberg.
Everyone has there own little habits, right now smoking is not ';politically-correct';...it wasn't always that way...feeding your kid a steady diet of junk food , and letting them play video games, instead of sending them outside, is worse for them than a little second hand smoke....
I lived to tell about it, and my father smoked 3 packs a day.


People need to stop complaining about smoking and kids. They like to shove fast food and sugar down there throats at will, but apparently that's ok. I guess they don't mind their kids getting high cholesterol, and diabetes.
Um my parents smoked infornt of me and and my father was far from selfish he busted his butt to make sure i had a wonderful life.I came out just fine. no lung problems no health problems. YOU SHOULD THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE YOU CALL SELFISH MAYBE BUSTING THERE BUTTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN. Dont judge people.
My son is allergic to cigarette smoke. I would never do that. I do not even let people smoke on our porch. It makes me sick walking out of a store to people smoking. I make it a point to go out the side door and check for people smoking so he doesn't inhale any.

If they smoke and are good parents so what, really so what. If they are non smokers and beat their kids thats okay? I say pick your poison and if I'm going to criticize a parent its for something legit.
why do you eat fattening food in front of yours? ..why do you take kids to burger king? Why do you have beer in your fridge next to the milk?
I personnally think he/she is selfish, not caring for the child's or non smokers' health. I have many friends who are smokers but they do not smoke in front of kids, or their non smoking partner.
People who smoke are addicted to nicotine. Addicts have a terrible time controlling their behavior.
