Does this make me a bad person or a bad parent?

I just put my son to sleep by reading him 2 chapters from ';Atlas Shrugged';.Does this make me a bad person or a bad parent?
John:

Wow. I had trouble staying awake reading Ayn Rand when I was 25. But a 2-year old? You're not a bad parent, just a little over zealous.

When he starts to study government and social systems (in the 4th grade), you can bring out the Ayn Rand again.

Your idea is great, exposing him to great literary works, but right now, this is a little too much. He'll remember the experience as Dad sitting there reading, blah, blah, blah, blah and miss the bonding opportunity that this is.

Stick with counting books, books about animals and books that help him relate to his 2-year-old world: Dr. Seuss (rhyming books build memory and math skills); AA Milne (the original Pooh writer) did stories and poems; Rudyard Kipling (How the Rhinoceros Got Its Skin, The Just So Stories, written for his own kids); and anything about what interests him -- dinosaurs, horses, motorcycles, big machines.

Developing his love for books and sharing your love for reading with him will be an important bond for life. My kids treasure the classics we read at night when they were growing up -- The Greek and Roman Myths, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and many English authors. It developed their vocabulary to the extent that sometimes their classmates didn't know what some of the words they used meant, because they hadn't read the classics.

I started reading to my kids when they were six months old, developing their attention span and ability to listen, follow words, colors and shapes. You're on the right track!!

Good luck. Does this make me a bad person or a bad parent?
Haha! Definitely not! You have introduced him to the adult literary world (whether your opinion on Ayn Rand is positive or not). He was probably just listening to your voice, not necessarily the words/meanings. Besides, most of it probably went over his head.

:-) Relax! You did fine.
Two *pages* of Atlas Shrugged would put me to sleep.
